Publication
Scandinavian Journal of Comic Art
Stichtag: 01.05.2017

Scandinavian Journal of Comic Art (SJoCA) is an online, open-access, peer reviewed academic journal about comics and sequential art. The scope of the journal is interdisciplinary, encouraging a wide range of theoretical and methodological perspectives. The journal publishes articles, book reviews and news from the field of comics studies. The language of the journal is English.

Although the journal is rooted in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden), it is global in scope and aims to publish high quality research regardless of national or regional boundaries.

One of our upcoming issues will address the theme of „Comics and Radical Critique.“ We still have some room, so if you have an idea that you think would be a good fit, don’t hesitate to give us a shout! We’re particularly interested in Forum texts of a more argumentative bent.

Ideally, we are hoping for pieces about comics that present radical views and critiques of any aspect of culture, society, or history (e.g. Occupy Comics, Artists Against Police Brutality, etc.), for critiques of comics from a critical or radical point of view (e.g. a selection of superhero comics and its representations of race, gender, or class; or specific comics autobiographies and privilege or gentrification), for overviews of any segment of the comics industry/field that can be convincingly be labeled „radical“ (e.g. comics activism), and for more theoretically informed pieces that can promote a more radical edge to the field of comics studies.

We’ll be accepting texts until May 1, 2017!
