CFP: Nordic Network for Comics Research Seminar

Conference
NNCORE Seminar
Stockholm University, Albano campus, Asia Library
September 9, 2018
Stichtag: 01.07.2018

At a meeting in Stockholm in November 2017, it was agreed to hold semi-annual seminars alternatingly in one of the Nordic countries. For this one, the new representatives of the Swedish constituency, David Gedin and Ylva Lindberg, (and myself as webmaster) invite two kinds of contributions:

(1) Papers related to theoretical framings or practical analytical concepts for Comics Studies. Rather than merely introducing specific artists, schools, regions or historical periods, the papers should have an emphasis on developing tools for further research that is able to cross diverse comics-studies approaches. These papers shall be presented at the seminar, within 20 minutes.

(2) “Work in Progress” papers. These should be submitted three weeks prior to the seminar for circulation among the participants, and will be discussed without further presentation at the seminar. Again, the emphasis should be on analytical approaches and possible methods.

Please submit a proposal of maximum 300 words and a bio-blurb of maximum 100 words to David.Gedin@littvet.uu.se

Deadline for all proposals: 1 July, 2018
Deadline for submission of “Work in Progress” papers: 20 August, 2018

For technical reasons, we would also like you to pre-register for participation without paper by 20 August 2018 — sending an email to jberndt@su.se.

This seminar will be a small-scale event in the afternoon of Sweden’s general election day. We do not have any budget, but coffee, tea and water will be provided by Jaqueline Berndt (Stockholm University), who also hopes to attract your attention to the international conference on manga/comics held at Stockholm University’s Department of Asian, Middle Eastern and Turkish Studies from the 6– 8 September, 2018.

The above information and more can be found on NNCORE’s reinvigorated website (which is in part still under construction): https://nncore.wordpress.com

We would be very happy to see you in Stockholm if you have the means and opportunity to come.
