The Millionaires Club 2020 in Leipzig

Termin:
13.03.2020 - 15.03.2020

Today the international Leipzig Book Fair announced they will not be holding the event this year. The Book Fair took preventative measures due to the corona virus because they host 280.000 visitors.

The Millionaires Club team and the Venue Conne Island will continue as planned with the Comics and Graphics Festival The Millionaires Club March 13 -15, 2020.

Every day life here in Leipzig and Germany continues as usual. After we spoke with the health department of the city of Leipzig they informed us that they saw no reason to cancel our fairly small festival. […]

In times of uncertainty and turmoil you‘re well advised to find an
inner sanctuary. „Happy Place“ by Max Baitinger collects stories
about finding balance while doing your best as an artist. No matter
if you‘re being jumped on by the internet or collecting bruises
in the gym – imagine a better place and keep petting the animals.

We are so glad that our friend and fellow artist Gabriela Jolowicz (*1978, Salzgitter, Germany) will be showing some of her radical black and white woodcuts at The Millionaires Club. She is a master in transforming images from our everyday lives into this ancient print technique. […] One can lose them self in the impressive attention to detail as well as the fascinating imagery Gabi’s art presents.

If it wasn’t for Julie Doucet (*1965, Montréal, Canada) many of us wouldn’t be drawing comics today. Her work was and continues to be a huge influence on so many in the world of comics. Since first appearing in 1991 (Drawn & Quarterly) and soon after translated into German and published by Reprodukt, her comic series Dirty Plotte made huge waves in the underground scene. […] Reprodukt will have ready a new German collection (Julie Doucets allerschönste Comic Strips) of unpublished comics! We are very honored that Julie is coming to Leipzig after such a long hiatus away from the comics scene. We will show excerpts of her art and she will be tabling with zines and books.
