CFP: Superhero Studies

Publication
The Routledge Companion to Superhero Studies
Stichtag: 12.01.2022

In answer to the evolutionary portrayals of superheroes in our cultures, histories, and narratives, the editors welcome chapter proposals for selection and inclusion into The Routledge Companion to Superhero Studies, for which a contract has already been signed.

The volume will be a part of the prestigious Routledge Media and Cultural Studies Companions series: https://www.routledge.com/Routledge-Media-and-Cultural-Studies-Companions/book-series/RMCSC.

The editors have already commissioned a number of chapters for The Routledge Companion to Superhero Studies. While they welcome conversations around any and all topics concerning superheroes, the editors have a special interest in proposals that consider the following topics:

  • Narrative Conventions
  • Animation
  • Radio
  • Theatre
  • Musicals
  • Podcasts
  • LGBTQI+
  • Religion
  • Indigeneity
  • Australian and/or New Zealand Superheroes

  • Other National Identities and Histories
  • Creators and the Creative Process
  • Cosplay
  • Fashion
  • Toys
  • Fan Communities
  • Non-Mainstream / Indie Publishing

The editors invite abstracts of around 300 words on any of the above topics.

Final essays will be 5500 words in length, including references, and due in April 2023.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 12 January 2023.

Please email your abstracts (together with a short bio, 100 words max) for consideration to both editors:
