Im Frühjahr diesen Jahres sind einige neue Ausgaben internationaler akademischer Comic-Journale erschienen. Obwohl diese allesamt nicht kostenfrei online zugänglich sind, bieten die Webseiten immerhin eine Übersicht über den Inhalt und die Gelegenheit die einzelnen Ausgaben (oder gleich ein regelmäßiges Abonnement des jeweiligen Magazins) zu beziehen. Jede Ausgabe vereint eine Vielzahl an Beiträgen zu den unterschiedlichsten Themen und Texten. Ein Blick in die verlinkten Inhaltsverzeichnisse lohnt sich also!

Die erste Ausgabe des Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics im Jahr 2018 wurde von David Huxley und Joan Ormrod herausgegeben und umfasst u.a. Artikel über Chris Ware, Superheldencomics und Alison Bechdel.
„The articles in this issue deal with a wide range of material, from some of the most overtly complex work to the apparently simple. The first two articles reflect what the images in the comic and their construction can tell about comics form. . . . The next three articles are connected through the superhero genre. Each examines an aspect of either gender or history. . . . [One article is on Alison Bechdel’s Are You My Mother?.] . . . Continuing the medieval theme we feature David A. Die aktuelle Ausgabe des unabhängigen International Journal of Comic Art wurde von John A. Lent herausgegeben und versammelt stolze 24 Artikel zu einer Vielzahl von Themen und Ansätzen. Von Wonder Woman zu Comics in Saudi Arabien, China, der Mongolei, Brasilien, Argentinien, Bangladesh, der Türkei u.v.m. findet sich hier ein wahrlich internationales Spektrum an Comic-Kunst und Autor_innen.
The Journal of Comics and Culture #2 (Herbst 2017)
Die zweite Ausgabe des noch jungen Journal of Comics and Culture wurde von Carol Tilley und Paul Levitz herausgegeben und beschäftigt sich vor allem mit dem Einfluss von (amerikanischen) Comics auf die amerikanische Kultur.
„Volume 2 focuses specifically on the informative theme of Comics in the Margins, featuring articles such as “Autobiography, Documentary, and History in Comics: The Four Immigrants Manga and Citizen 13660” by Lan Dong; and “‘Equally Terrorized’: Rhetorical Irony, Rorty, and In the Shadow of No Towers” by Daniel Lawson. There are several book reviews in volume 2, including Captain Marvel and the Art of Nostalgia by Brian Cremins, and Superman: The Persistence of an American Icon by Ian Gordon.
