21st ComFor-annual conference 2026: „Figures and Figurations of the Heroic in Comics“ in Gießen

The 21st annual conference of the Society for Comics Studies (ComFor) will take place at the University of Gießen from September 30th to October 1st, 2026. It is being organized Jörn Ahrens, Frank Thomas Brinkmann, and Kirsten von Hagen. The keynote is given by Rafael Carrión Arias (Madrid) on the topic of “Look up in the sky! It’s a bird… it’s a plane… It’s fascism! Towards a genealogy of the contemporary hero in the age of Nihilism”
