Diversity

The diversity initiative sees itself as a reaction to a lack of diversity present in comics studies and the ComFor, which is reflected in research approaches and text canon as well as in the group of researchers and their public representation and networking. In order to counteract these unequal representational relationships, the diversity initiative strives to build a more inclusive environment for research and discussions, to establish new impulses in contemporary research and to take a stand against all forms of discrimination and exclusion.

To this end, the initiative was formed in the late summer of 2019, originally with the aim of promoting non-hegemonic, queer-feminist approaches in comic research and the visibility, participation and networking of researchers, comic artists and other people with marginalised gender identities that are active in the comic scene. The focus has subsequently been expanded.
